Lost For Lack of Improvement

Lost For Lack of Improvement

We fight out bleeding sins from within
An endless battle when we’ll never win
An eternal war we begin for our kin
Hiding our chagrin behind a grin

We seek to be better than designed
But when we look we often find
Our shortcomings flash like a neon sign
Sewing pain and doubt into our minds

A little faster, a little strong, a little more
Seeking ever to even our failing score
We compare ourselves to those we adore
Until all that’s left is what we abhor

I search for strength I never knew
Anything that will help me through
But what I find is false and untrue
And so my sins further accrue

Lastly, I’m blinded by my doubt
Wondering what this life is about
Wretched tears, I scream and shout
Until at last, I am out.
