Murder of the Mind: III

Murder of the Mind: III

The distractions seemed harmless at first
Anything to quench my unrelenting thirst
My mind would wander, but always return
Further and further I would later learn

Staring blankly into screens at imaginary things
Characters, heroes and malevolent kings
Little did I know how my mind screamed
Each sight a fatal nail; oh, how harmless it seemed.

It was hardly a glorious battle, to say the least
In my ignorant ways, I never saw the deadly beast
Little by little, with stealth and grace, it inched its way up
It drank from me, my body its unfortunate cup

It is hardly right to stand or fight it now
I shall fall broken with no final bow
So I sit and wait with my head in the clouds
Staring at screens with the crowds
